Blues is an improvised style of African-American jazz that is often described as being sad with the lyrics being often about the hardships of life. It is based on a chord progression that lasts for 8, 12 or 32 bars. Mostly commonly 12 bar blues. The melody is usually based on the blues scale and there are also added discordant notes called blues notes.
